Evgenia, a strong-minded and beautiful nineteen-year-old, spends the summer in Bulgaria with her grandparents. As in Christova's previous works, the writing is fresh, visual and tastefully erotic. The details of people and places are drawn with a word-artist's pen. One is hooked, and disbelief is suspended.Nineteen-year-old Evgenia, beautiful, willful and intelligent, is unique in a way she never imagined. Zmay have always been a prominent feature of Bulgarian folklore, and it was a pleasant surprise to see them transformed into these awesome beings with supernatural powers. I only wished there were more about their origins, history and culture. Hopefully, there will be more in the sequel.
The story is enfolding in a small town in Bulgaria. The author captured the local lifestyle with exactitude and in the same time, seen through her eyes, it became something different and special, almost like a fairy tale.
Evgenia may seem to act in ways not typical for a heroine of a story, but she for sure acts like a typical Bulgarian girl. She is stubborn and self-centered, but she could be sweet and caring to her friends and family. I can't way to read more about her adventures in the sequel of "Eve Anon."
“Eve Anon” is not just another paranormal romance. The story has a charming, fairy tale quality, beautiful descriptions, and very innovative use of Balkan folklore. Evgenia is one of the most interesting female protagonists out there; she is athletic, confident, down-to-earth, and despite her inability to fall in love, she radiates warmth and the reader never doubts her capacity for deeper feelings. Volume 1 doesn’t offer a happy ending, which further disqualifies the novel as a romance. I am curious about how the story will develop in the next volume(s).

What I like most about "Eve Anon" is the ingenious redesign of Bulgarian folklore myths. The story line is original, the book is well written, and even the supporting characters are developed in depth. I give it five stars.
A warning--if you don’t like stories that leave you hanging, wait until Volume 2 is out.
Evgenia, the main character, is willful, smart, and funny. I identified with Evgenia and rooted for her to succeed. The setting is unique and interesting, and the imagery is enchanting. Evgenia's return bus trip at the end of chapter 1, for example, had a wonderful enchanted feel. At other times, the imagery is dark and spooky.
The romance between Evgenia and the mythical beings is well-done, and I felt Evgenia's uncertainty about which course to take and which suitor to favor. I felt Evgenia's conflict about which zmay to choose, if either. And the meddling by her family felt true to life.
Best of all, the storyline was unique and I didn't know what to expect next. The mythical creatures were unique. I have never read any fantasy or popular fiction incorporating Bulgarian folk tales. This was a cut above the usual fantasy romance, with believable and real characters that I found to be real and compelling.
I like it, even though it could really use a couple of editorial passes. You can tell that English is not the original language.
